Real life is the weirdest thing. Today I did a little shopping and when I was on my way back home, I passed a bakery near the tram. This bakery just got delivery and the empty plastic boxes, in which the fresh rolls had been delivered, still stood in front of the bakery. I read the text on the boxes and was surprised to say the least. The text said: "stolen from bakery xy". No, today we don't say "property of bakery xy", we assume the worst case scenario. I hope the delivery man does not feel like a thief all the time.

I've got a cold again and I feel like a really fat sumo ringer played basketball with me. I hate it! The worst part is, I only get ill when I have a free day. The whole week I worked and went from one place to the other, I presented a paper, I met some friends, I had a compact course and today I wanted to do nothing. Bham! Scene cold!

Anyway, at least I can surf the internet from my bed. On boingboing I found this supercute video, which I want to share:

It's a baby pygmy hippo

<lj-embed id="39" />

I also did some crocheting today. This may sound weird, but it's not. On Wednesday I found a book about Amigurumi in my local bookstore and I was instantly in love and wanted to create something like this. So I use the late or early hours of the day to crochet a penguin. I already finished the head and body. Now I only need the wings and feet. ^-^

I know what you think, when you read the title of this post. Shame on you! You have only one thing in mind, really! "Strip around the world" is not an order to get naked, but the name of a project. I'll post the summary, so you know, what's behind the slogan:

"ALL THE ARTISTS AND FRIENDS OF COMICS FROM AROUND THE WORLD CAN MEET HERE AND CREATE A UNIQUE PIECE OF ART: THE LARGEST AND LONGEST COLLABORATIVE COMIC THAT HAS EVER EXISTED – IT IS SUPPOSED TO REACH AROUND THE WORLD ONCE AND BRING PEOPLE AND NATIONS TOGETHER! BE A PART OF IT"

Don't you think this is interesting? The longest collaborative comic strip in the world. If I find some time, I'd like to contribute. Some works are already uploaded on the site. Unfortunately the navigation is horrible. I wanted to be able to scroll the whole strip comfortably, but the tool to do this is a tiny little paperclip on the top. The pics just fly by, because I am not very well coordinated. T-T

Sehr subtil, sehr gezielt, sehr romantisch!
Today is much better. I got a place in a seminar in the morning and could cancel one in the afternoon, so I can be home earlier. My boss at work is a little strange lately, but I think he has much to do and is stressed. Anyway, no need to take his moods out on the staff.

I promised to post something interesting. In this case it's a nice little video I found on youtube yesterday. I only wanted to listen to the song "Your soul" by Ivri Lider, maybe you know it from the movie "Yossi & Jagger". But I also like to click my way through the sidebar with similar videos and found this wonderful song and video:

Jesse by Ivri Lider
<lj-embed id="7" />

I think Ivri Lider has become one of my favourite insider tips. I also recommend the video to "The Man I Love". The song is fantastic and I think in the video you can see Ohad Knoller, who played Yossi. I want to know which movie or series the video material is from. But I'll also warn you, in this video sound and image are not completely synchronised. Don't be surprised or disappointed.

I am absolutely exhausted. My last weeks killed me almost literally. First I had to finish my final paper. It's done, so yeah! Thanks to everyone who took the poll I posted. Your answers helped a lot.

I also had to plan my new schedule for this semester, because I want to do the advanced courses and reach "Master" level. Of course I only got into half of the courses I wanted. I so wanted to take a course about podcasts, but so do many others it seems. Well, can't help it.

Then I went home to my parents and grandparents to at least have some free days and see them again. It had been six months since my last visit. My mom tried to feed me to death and so did my granny. The one day I even had to take something for my stomach, because it couldn't handle the splendid meals. I met up with my brother and mllesatine and an old friend from primary school. They made my days!

I also love mllesatine, because she saved me from hours of tremendous boredom and excrutiating madness (No, it's not Sparta!). Never has misfortune be more amusing. Thanks a lot! &hearts &hearts &hearts

Yesterday I travelled back and after seven long hours in overly air-conditioned trains was here again. There was no time to relax, because today was my longest day in the week with work, language course and two seminars. I think nine hours at university are enough to drain me, especially when I have no breaks in between the seminars and have to run from one place to the other. Now I just want to sleep and maybe tomorrow I'll post some interesting things.

My favourite activity while going by tram somewhere is reading some magazines. I often read interesting facts and then think about posting them here, so that's what I want to do today.

News 1:

In "Psychologie heute" I read about new studies in America, which want to explore people's judgement of other people's sexual orientation by watching their body postures. I think, that's a really cool idea, because it could explain some of the well-known stereotypical judgements (we all know the "broken wrist"). I'd like to read about the studies, but I'd have to pay for the text. :(

By the way, the layout designers of the magazine did a bad job. They illustrated the news about these studies with a very strange pic: background is red, a manikin seems to run in joy towards a point outside the pic, manikin has a clearly visible erection, weirdest part: on the erection sits another, little manikin pointing towards heaven (like in "Stayin alive"). It almost looks like the huge manikin fucks the mini manikin and that's just very, very wrong.

News 2:

In "PM" a headline caught my eye: "Gefühlsechter Penis aus Chirurgenhand" ("Natural feeling penis made by surgeons"). The article is about a new medical technology called phalloplasty. Surgeons can form a urethra from skin of the thighs and well, it's complicated because it seems they really move body material form here to there and in the end they connect nerves. There's even the chance for the operated people to procreate. Wow to medicine! Ouch to the operation!

News 3:

In some students magazine I read weird facts:

The followers of the Malaysian sect "Sky Kingdom" venerated a huge tea pot and a yellow umbrella. (And I venerate my notebook, what about it?)

In Fairbanks (Alaska) the inhabitants aren't allowed to approve of mating moose on the street. (They probably have to tear them apart. *snickers*)

Snails can sleep up to three years without interruption. (I'd like to try that, too.)

In China drowning people may not be rescued because it would interfere with fate. (Remember: Don't take a swim in China!)

The German word "Schilderwald" is untranslatable into any language. Schilderwald means a chaos of traffic signs. We use it, when there are a lot of signs with opposite meaning and you don't get what is allowed and what not (or which direction you should go in). (I hate Schilderwälder.)

In Germany "fornication between men" was formally struck out the code of law in 1994. (Wow!)

Some days in life are strange, some days are good or bad and some are just mysterious. Mysterious as in "there was a book in my mailbox, no note, no nothing and it's not mine". Well, this is what happened to me. I had a book (seems to be pre-owned) in my mailbox and I don't know why. I guess, someone in my house lent it to a person and this person did not get the right mailbox, but ... this book ... it's ... one of those historical love novels. You know, the ones with a blond and attractive noble man holding a pompously yet lightly dressed damsel on the cover, both have a look of either deep affection or progressed dementia (you never know) on their faces while they look at each other. Of course he is taller than her.

You can imagine the good laugh I had, when I checked my mailbox? Who in hell?
I recommend reading the blurb of the book ("To Catch an Heiress" by Julia Quinn):

"When Caroline Trent is kidnapped by Blake Ravenscroft, she doesn't even try to elude this dangerously handsome agent of the crown. After all, she's been running from unwanted marriage proposals. Yes, Blake believes she's a notorious spy named Carlotta De Leon, but for six weeks until her twenty-first birthday, when she'll gain control of her fortune, hiding out in the titillating company of a mysterious captor is awfully convenient -- and maybe just a little romantic, too.
Blake Ravenscroft's mission is to bring "Carlotta" to justice, not to fall in love. His heart has been hardened by years of intrigue, but this little temptress proves oddly disarming and thoroughly kissable. And suddenly the unthinkable becomes possible -- that this mismatched Couple might be destined for love."

Ah, and please take a look at the German cover! Cover is here

I learn, because I am a fan - The impact of fan identities on learning

Due to my final paper in media pedagogics I'd like to start a little poll about learning processes in fannish environments. It's a topic I became interested in, because I am very proud of being a fan myself and I love dynamics in fandom. I like to be able to talk about my fandoms, my interests. I also admire other fans for providing me every day with new, creative "fan products" such as fanfics or fanart. One of the most fascinating things is the ever present wish of authors, artists, fans to improve. While we present ourselves as fans on IJ or LJ or some other site, we show our fannish interests and bridge the gap between passive consument of media and active subject with the desire to be productive. I'd even say, we start to deal with some things just because we are fans. I myself started learning a foreign language, because my fannish obsession wanted to run wild.

To make it short, I am curious as to what your experiences are. Did you learn, because you are a fan? What did you learn? How did you learn? Please, tell me! If you don't think your being a fan does have no impact on your learning, I'd like to hear your opinion, too.

View Poll: Fan identity and learning processes

I like cute and I hate evil (at least sometimes)

Yesterday I found this damn cute video on youtube. It's just about a little bunny, but I could watch it again and again and again, because the bunny is so fluffy and soft and cute.

Bunny video 1

<lj-embed id="34" />

Bunny's return (the music is horrible)

<lj-embed id="35" />

And while I am at it, last week one of my friends showed me a very cruel short film about bunnies (he had warned me). Maybe you know this one: "The Runt" by Andreas Hykade. It's about a boy and his rabbit, or on another level it's about rural life. A young boy watches the birth of rabbits with his father and saves one of the newborns from his uncle, but he has to make the promise to care for the rabbit and butcher it in one year from then on. So the boy cares for the rabbit and you know, where this is going. There is no happy end, unfortunately.

"The Runt" by Andreas Hykade (video is in Bavarian dialect)

<lj-embed id="36" />

I really warn you, the rabbit dies in the end and it's not a good and fast end. By the way, Germans could know Andreas Hykade from the "Zehn kleine Jägermeister" video for "Die Toten Hosen" (What a denglish!).

Favourite Pairings Meme

I snatched this meme from my flist on LJ. amai_amaya presented her answers there and I instantly was intrigued.

Instructions:

[1] List your top 10 character ships.
[2] Put all of them IN ORDER of your love for them. (10 to 1, 1 being my main fixation)
[3] Say which movie/show/thing it was that they're in.
[4] Supply photos for said people.
[*]Extra, share recs to your favorite fanfics about these pairings.

10. Alexander/Hephaistion (movie: Alexander)

Ignore Alex's hairstyle, really! It looks like the nest of family happy eagle! It's his character and postion as ruler, which make this pairing work so good. Hepha is kind of his childhood friend and later on one of his direct subordinates. Do you already feel the tension?

9. L/Light (anime: Death Note)

(pic taken from: www.heavenly-garden.com)

Ah, I love those two! Their rivalry and their mind games are so full of tension. And hell, if there was nothing when they were chained together!

By the way, here is one of my favourite humorous comic strips for Death Note.

8. Harry/Draco (book: Harry Potter)

Well, who doesn't know them? I won't post any pics, because I like the charas from the book, not their representants in the films. Though I recommend the fanart of glockgal (find it here at LJ)

7. Sirius/Remus (book: Harry Potter)

I love the Marauder's era and especially the pairing Sirius/Remus. Imagine the possibilities of Remus' inner animalistic side, the werwolf. Also Sirius natural temper and the conflicts between him and his noble family are stuff to rise the tension. Love them!

6. Inui/Kaidou (anime: Prince of Tennis)

My new favourite fandom: Prince of Tennis. I am enthralled by so many different pairings in this fandom (Inui/Kaidou, Kaidoh/Momo, Fuji/Tezuka, Oishi/Kikumaru, Sanada/Yukimura, ...). One, which fascinates me the most is Inui/Kaidou, because they understand each other. They both share the will to win and to train the hardest to overcome their own weaknesses. And my, Inui helps Kaidou with his training schedule and they actually like to touch each other and they played doubles together and I know Inui has some wicked plans in mind to seduce Kaidou. Oh, and nobody can argue the fact, that Kaidou was flustered, when Inui "called him on a date" (for those who don't know the anime: It was all a big misunderstanding. Inui called Kaidou to ask him to join his group of friends who were stalking someone "on a date". On the phone, though, Inui asked if Kaidou had free time and said "It's a date". Kaidou couldn't decide if he wanted to go or not.)

some fanart pics on DA:
Inukai 1
Inukai 2
Kaidou
Inui (NSFW)

5. Ichigo/Renji (anime: Bleach)

Uhm, what should I say? Hot, hot, hot! Those two are just sooooo in love (and denial) and because both of them have their own temper, when added they are like one damn explosive ball of lava (aka love).

4. Byakuya/Renji (anime: Bleach)

(fanart by Dragonblood on aarinfantasy)

Jepp, Renji is one of my favourite charas, because he is this temperamental kind of guy. And although I love to see the passionate combination of Renji and Ichigo, I like Byakuya/Renji the most, because it's way better to have some conflicts between the charas. Opposites attract! I also guess nobody disagrees when I say, it's sexy to see stoic guys (like Byakuya) melt in lust and passion, yeah!

3. Oishi/Kikumaru (Golden Pair) (anime: Prince of Tennis)

(Unfortunately I dont know, who the artist is, but this pic is cute.)

Golden Pair!!! That name is symbol for their connection, for their passion. Kikumaru and Oishi is perfect. I mean, the play doubles, they reach perfect synchronisation and they have the support of their team. And hell, Kikumaru plays acrobatic and Oishi is his BACKUP. There couldn't be more subtext.

2. Naruto/Sasuke (anime: Naruto)

Ha, my almost favourite pairing and sometimes it's my favourite pairing (because there is not enough good fic for my fav's). Well, Naruto and Sasuke! There couldn't be Naruto without Sasuke, right? And there couldn't be Sasuke without Naruto. Those two are absolutely obsessed with each other. They speak of bonds and secretly think about bondage. As if they could hide it, tse. Rivalry, combat and friendship/love is the best combination, add some psychological problems, traumata and obstinacy and it's perfect.

1. Heero/Duo (or 1x2) (anime: Gundam Wing)

They both are kickass, they love their machines and the thrill of battle, they have their convictions and ideals. I love those boys! Heero "man of steel" Yui and Duo "Shinigami" Maxwell are the perfect match. I mean, they are soldiers and this cries for action and h/c. They are also comrades who trust each other and know of their respective abilities (That's respect and love for you!). Most important: their differences in character. Keep them in one place and literally watch the place burn to ashes! (explosions, UST, wall!sex, ever seen a soldier on adrenaline? ^-^)

Enough is enough! I can't take it anymore! Here is my latest personal must not read.

Title: Lost in a Memory
Author: Stavi
Fandom: Naruto
Rating: M
Pairing: SasuNaru
Other Pairings: none
Warnings: slight yaoi
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3151691/4/Lost_in_a_Memory
When did I stop reading: chapter four
Why?: Well, my first "moment" was in chapter one, when a boy - we all know instantly it's Naruto - starts singing a sad, sad love song by a waterfall and incidentally Sasuke watches the boy and is enthralled. Following: a confusing dialogue with some more foreboding sadness and a nice!Kyuubi. Okay, I thought, maybe it will all become clearer. That was before Naruto broke down in chapter 2, awoke in hospital and had a mental breakdown in chapter 3, which caused Tsunade to get all emotional and finally led her to tell the sorrowful teammates all about Naruto's bad past and what strong boy he is. Ah, I almost forgot, while she tells them, Naruto stands behind the closed door, hears everything, weeps and then steps into the room to be comforted by his <strike>team</strike> commiserative admirers.
What really bothered me: "Oh my God, his past was hell! And we didn't know! We need to buy him sweets and fall in love with him. Sasuke, you stop calling him an idiot! By the way, take off your clothes, we need to COMFORT him really good as in cure his emotional scars! I'll bring you the cigarettes for the after-comfort-sex-smoke!"
How could the author save this fic?: I really don't know. It starts with the characterisation, I guess. Misery is good, but you have to measure it. Too much is too much. And personally I think, misery is the wrong tool to make people admire others.

So, I am still working on my final paper about fan identities and processes of learning. While on the one hand I read some very interesting texts and books (try "Fans, Bloggers and Gamers" by Henry Jenkins), there are still some very irritating papers.

I understand, why people, especially academic writers, would like to differentiate between different kinds of identities and group identities, but to put Star Trek fans into one category with campari drinkers and nike shoe wearers is beyond me. Okay, I see, where this was supposed to go (something like, it's a group, which shares an interest for something, blah blah), but really. To be a Star Trek fan requires far more than being a campari drinker. Have you ever seen campari drinkers discuss about the emotional depth and characterisation of their drink? No? Well, then I am relieved.

I am not a Star Trek fan myself, but I still feel offended by this categorisation. o_O

ETA: Who would ever call a body "skin bag"?

Six different graphic artists created their own interwoven stories of fear and horror. Because of the black and white look, you really get scared.

Here's the trailer from youtube:

<lj-embed id="18" />

Because the quality of the trailer on youtube is kind of bad, I'd recommend the official site of the film:

Official Site (trailer and information)
Peur(s) du noir on myspace (short teasers of some of the episodes)

Why does someone write a Naruto fanfic with the title "mind, body and heart" (the lowercase is not my typo)? And one of the pairings: Haku x Garra (again, no typo).
Not only that the concept of "mind, body and heart" has repulsed me since I started reading fanfics, no. There also has to be this constant misspelling of character names. It's Gaara, long A short R. Gosh!

Long time no see! But I am still alive, just lazy (at least online). Finally my semester break started and what do I do? Sit in my room and write my documentation, essay, paper and final paper. Great! Well at least I don't have to go to work or courses. :)

Yesterday I got my amazon order with this book, which I will take as reference for my final paper (I write about learning processes of fans).

The subject, though, I wanted to talk about, is this new song "I kissed a girl" by Katy Perry.

I like the song and I think Katy Perry's voice is interesting, but what's up with this video?

<lj-embed id="4" />

When I first heard the song I was all "Wow, cool! She sings about the wrongness to put a stigma on same gender relationships". But then I saw this video and I was all disappointed. It screams "Look, I am suuuuuuuch a naughty girl!". I mean, she wants me to believe she dreams of latex and netshirt girls who loll on a bed, because she kissed one girl? I rather think some pervert used telepathy and implanted his sex fantasies into her brain. Gone is all the defiant meaning of the song, gone is all the coolness. Just because she had to present herself like every other music video background stripdancer.

Oh and btw, I like gayness, but this is just too much to process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwQNb_J9Gw8&NR=1
And this one is great, although you better turn it mute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0292ZQgmxqI

My heart still bleeds, because the authors spoiled my favourite fandom: Gundam Wing.

Title: The Edulcoration of Duo Maxwell
Author: Mookie 821
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Rating: -
Pairing: 1x2
Other Pairings: maybe, don't know
Warnings: "AU, yaoi, coarse language, violence, angst, cliffhangers, red herrings, mention of various vices, random bits of useless knowledge, occasionally explicit sex, enough footnotes to choke an army of horses"(warning by the author)
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1668589/1/
When did I stop reading: First chapter
Why?: Heero is a whore, he wears a blond wig, Quatre is gambling-addicted and all is justified by the author by saying it's "a fusion [...] with the movie Pretty Woman". Oh well, and Duo is some rich bastard who gets lost with his car and happens to meet blond wig!Heero. The worst part is, when Duo lets this total stranger, who definitely is a hooker, drive the million, trillion, whatever car. I have only a pre-owned car and nobody comes near its steering wheel or I'll shoot them, not in a thousand years, pals.
What really bothered me: The blond wig, because under it Heero wears a hairnet. And of course Duo's attitude towards a total stranger. You know, rich men really won't let hookers drive their car and they won't invite them to their luxurious hotel room, because they are intrigued.
How could the author save this fic? I don't really know. Maybe think the characterisation through and don't construct the fic on stereotypes such as the very sexy and mysterious, but intelligent hooker.

Title: Circle of Destiny
Author: utsubame
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Rating: -
Pairing: 1x2
Other Pairings: seems to end in some 3x4, 5xS
Warnings: AU, OOC, gloomy!Duo (warning by the author)
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1837555/1/Circle_of_Destiny
When did I stop reading: First chapter
Why?: Stereotypes, so many of them, in all their sparkling glory. I mean in the first chapter alone there is more dicussion about spring leaf coloured eyes and beautiful orbs, along with perfectly shaped slaves and cruel slave traders and of course the righteous nobles who'd like to overthrow the corrupt system but are not able to, because the world is such a bad place and other nobles just like to live selfishly in luxury. Duo and Quatre are slaves and once were some kind of nobles, too. They search for "it" ... whatever.
What really bothered me: I think it's going to become worse in the following chapters. It seems the author wanted to create a really fantastic world and I presume some "they are not slaves but of noble blood and they came from a magically enchanted kingdom in search for it". Worst incident: Heero had a dream/memory about combing Duo's hair.
How could the author save this fic? This would be hard, because the whole fic is based on stereotypes and their stereotypical behaviour in the stereotypical plot with stereotypical dialogues. A good start would be to stop the nonsense with "his eyes were the colour of..." and the holy perfection of every bodypart.

Why are people you live with always irritating? I normally get along with my flatmate, but sometimes she drives me nuts. Take yesterday for example: I still try to draw something everyday and at the moment it's mannikins to get a feeling for proportions. She comes into my room (without explicit permission) and sits down in one of my chairs, she tells me all about some guy (I am not interested to hear it) and she sees my sketches. She askes me: "Is this a man or a woman?" My answer: "Does a woman have a cock?"

We could live together so well, if she just observed some rules:

1. Don't walk into my room when I look like I don't want you to do that.
2. No talk about some guy. It's annoying.
3. a.) Think, b.) Speak
or alternatively: 4. Don't open your mouth at all!
(5. Give me some chocolate from time to time)

And here I am again bringing some videos, because it's the only fun in my life (not really, but I am still quite busy). I bet you'll laugh about these.

The first one is not funny, but you need to watch it, to understand the joke in the following video.

This is the "12 Girls Band" with one of their instrumental performances.

<lj-embed id="15" />

And this is a very funny parody and I laughed my ass off when I watched it.

<lj-embed id="16" />

First I thought the guy wanted to make fun of Visual Kei bands, but well, he really wanted to impersonate a girl band. My favourite part is at second 12, when he laughs like some advertiser for toothpaste.

Although I am tired as hell, I'll share my lastest web findings with you. I still watch Japanese videos on Youtube despite hearing and learning it every single damn day. But it's just too funny. For example take this version of "Time To Say Goodbye" by Minako Honda and Akira Fuse. They give their best, but well ... Japanese and Italian seems to conflict. My favourite part of the video is the maestro at 3:30 who looks like the German ex-footballer and football analyst/commentator Günter Netzer (a pic of Netzer in some German sports news).

I read the comments on Youtube and got to know the female singer passed away early and I wanted to know why. Seems she had leukemia and died of it in 2005 when she was only 38 years old. That's really tragic!

I also found out, she was famous for one song, where she holds a tone for about 30 seconds and I couldn't imagine that, so I searched and found the song "Tsubasa". You have to hear it!
