Beim Blättern durch ein Buchmagazin ist mir das Cover von Wolfgang Hohlbeins "Chronik der Unsterblichen: Glut und Asche" ins Auge gesprungen. Ich hatte zwar die ersten Teile der Chronik der Unsterblichen angelesen, aber sie hatten mir nicht gefallen. Das Cover dieses Buches schafft, was der gesamte Inhalt bei mir nicht schaffen wird: mich begeistern. Wahrscheinlich kommt das aber eher daher, dass hier mit meinem Slash-Herz gespielt wird (Sieht er nicht aus, als könnte er eine männliche Umarmung gebrauchen?). Wer auch immer das Cover gestaltet hat: 100% Trefferquote.

Is it just me or is there really only a short number of fanfics, which are not published on LJ. When I stumbled my way into fandom, there were archives everywhere (maybe that was because of the Harry Potter boom). Well, at least different independent author's homepages existed. In these olden days, if I may be allowed to call them that, fanfic recs led me to archives. These days recs lead me to LJ and LJ again and some more LJ. It's not only that all fics are published there, also the recs are published there.

In a touch of melancholy I want back the old times and I don't know why, because it's not even a bad thing for author's to be able to publish their fanfics easily in their journals. :( Maybe I feel like in archives these fics would be so much safer and easier to find. Something bothers me!

I saw something nasty in the woodshed

I love crazy characters in films and there is not a film with crazier characters than "Cold Comfort Farm". A co-worker recommended the film to me and I watched it on Youtube. It's hilarious!

The main character Flora wants to be a writer like Jane Austen and she decides to learn about real life to put it into books. So she moves to her relatives on Cold Comfort Farm and they are the most absurd people you've ever seen. Judith Starkadder, the mother, sees doom in everything, her son Seth can't control his sex drive, the daughter Elfine runs through the woods in a fairy-like costume and the grandmother Ada Doom doesn't allow anybody to leave the farm, "because there have always been Blackadders on Cold Comfort Farm" and she "did see something nasty in the woodshed" when she was a child (that's her argument throughout the film and it doesn't make a bit of sense).

My favourite character though is Amos Starkadder (played by Ian McKellen), Judith's husband and a preacher. He preaches of hellfire and doom. Here's a quote:

"Damned! Do you ever stop to think what that word means? No, you don't. It means endless, horrifying torment! It means your poor, sinful bodies stretched out on red-hot gridirons, in the nethermost, fiery pit of hell and those demons mocking ye while they waves cooling jellies in front of ye. You know what it's like when you burn your hand, taking a cake out of the oven, or lighting one of them godless cigarettes? And it stings with a fearful pain, aye? And you run to clap a bit of butter on it to take the pain away, aye? Well, I'll tell ye, there'll be no butter in hell!"

Comicfestival Munich 2009

Last Saturday I went to Munich because I wanted to visit the Comicfestival 2009. I had asked a bunch of friends to join me, but not one of them had time. So I packed my rucksack and took the train alone. Munich is like another world to me: Crowds of people and tall buildings.

I had the luck to meet some nice people on the train who accompanied me to "Marienplatz" from where I had to find my way. Unfortunately I went the wrong way. :) But I asked a very helpful man and he told me where to go and so I reached my destination. The entrance fee wasn't expensive (3 Euro) and I got a paper armband to be able to visit all points of the festival. I had decided to watch the cosplay contest and so I walked from "Altes Rathaus" to "Schrannenhalle". Well, I'd rather show you my impressions than talking some nonsense.

Well, I have taken some more pics, but my camera really is crappy and I don't feel like editing them all. All in all it was fun to watch the contest. The cosplayers performances were lame (mostly), but I didn't expect them to be superstars. It's sad that there were just a handful cosplayers. If you visit the "Leipziger Buchmesse" you can see more cosplayers, and that's not even a special comic event.

Whatever, I enjoyed the cosplay contest and then browsed the different comic stalls. Of course I found cool stuff. I had to decide though, because to have not enough money is a bitch. In one hand I held "Waltz with Bashir", with the other one I held "Mouse Guards - Autumn 1152". I chose to buy "Mouse Guards", because it's damn cute and adorable. I love the style!

After that I went back to "Altes Rathaus" where the publishing companies had their stalls. I browsed some more, found more cool stuff (i.e. "Tokyo Sanpo" by Florent Chavouet or "Uroshima Monogatari" by Youji Fukuyama --> zu deutsch "Der Casanovakomplex" o_O), cursed all people who invented money and adored everything around me.

Because it was already late afternoon, I strolled to my last stop: I wanted to listen to a lecture about Graphic Novels. So I went to the "Bier- und Oktoberfestmuseum", but I was to early and so I took a look at the exhibition of "Das Küken, die Maus und das Bier" (Little Chicken, Mouse and beer), very funny.

After the lecture I went back to the train station, took the wrong way, asked some more and found my way back. :) On the train I read "Mouse Guards" and was happy about the whole day and my little adventure.

Batman Gotham Knight

I just stumbled over some interesting information. The producers of "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" started an animation project. In cooperation with well-known directors they produced "Batman Gotham Knight", six interwoven short films about the transformation from Bruce Wayne to Batman. Some day I'll invest in the DVDs, I think. By the way, I don't know why I didn't read about this earlier and I guess I have to scold one of my friends, because he has the DVD and didn't tell me about this earlier.

Today one of my co-workers showed me a video of Bill Maher's show "Real Time". I laughed so hard! I hadn't heard of Bill Maher before and that's kind of odd, because he seems to be well-known. Hm! Anyway, now I'd like to watch "Religulous" and I wonder if this movie ever made it to Germany.

I love their discussion. So many true things are said. I'm just wished there was a second woman with another viewpoint to make it even.

And that's the first video I watched... so funny!

NEIN zur Christlichen Mitte

Nachdem ich mein Praktikum endlich erfolgreich abgeschlossen habe und auch die ersten sehr stressigen Wochen der Uni überstanden habe, widme ich mich nun wieder meinen Journals (nun ja, IJ sicher mehr als LJ).

Und heute morgen hat sich mir auch ein wunderbares Thema für einen aktuellen Post geboten. Ich habe die Angewohnheit als allererstes in der Frühe das Radio anzuschalten. Da demnächst die Europawahlen (07.06.2009) anstehen, habe ich so auch gleich den Werbespot der Christlichen Mitte (CM) hören dürfen. Da ich auf Kraftausdrücke an dieser Stelle verzichten möchte, sage ich nur kurz und knapp, dass dieser Werbespot mich durchaus überzeugt hat, die CM nicht zu wählen und sollte ich eines Tages Nachfahren haben, werde ich ihnen verbieten die CM zu wählen.

Ich sollte an dieser Stelle vielleicht auch erwähnen, dass ich keiner religiösen Gesinnung angehöre und dass Kirche im Allgemeinen mich abschreckt. Das soll aber nicht heißen, dass ich mich nicht gerne eines besseren belehren lasse. Ich diskutiere gerne mit meiner Arbeitskollegin Annika, die sehr christlich ist, aber eher für die positiven Werte des Glaubens steht als für die Kirche. Sie glaubt an Hilfsbereitschaft, Nächstenliebe und Verständnis, was ich sehr lobenswert finde. Bei vielen Menschen ist der Glaube aber eher zur Ausrede für ihr Handeln verkommen anstatt eine Antriebskraft für ein friedliches Zusammenleben und Toleranz zu sein.

Ich erinnere mich noch an eine Veranstaltung von ProChrist, zu der ich vor drei Jahren gegangen bin. Ich habe mich gefühlt wie bei einem Sektentreffen. Eine Szene ist mir im Gedächtnis geblieben. An einem bestimmten Punkt der Veranstaltung wurden die Mitglieder aufgerufen, sich zu ihrem Glauben an Jesus zu bekennen und als Zeichen dessen an ein hölzernes Kreuz zu treten. Warum sollte man an ein Kreuz treten? Reicht es nicht, wenn man den Glauben vertritt? Muss man sich den an solche symbolischen Akte binden? Aber vielleicht kann mir das ja noch jemand erklären.

Jedenfalls zurück zur CM: Das Wahlprogramm ist in 10 Gebote gegliedert, was ja schon viel aussagt. Die ersten drei Gebote befassen sich mit der Christianisierung Deutschlands ("NEIN zur Islamisierung") sowie der Gottesehrfurcht und der Heilighaltung von Sonn- und Feiertagen. Finde ich persönlich schon fragwürdig das Ganze. Außerdem ist es aus meiner Sicht intolerant (gegenüber verschiedenen Bevölkerungsschichten und den Personen, die sich bewusst gegen den christlichen Glauben entschieden haben wie ich).

Dann wird es aber besser: NEIN zu Euthanasie (Muss man mit diesem vorgeprägten Begriff um sich schmeißen? Gemeint ist hier einfach die Sterbehilfe, wird aber hier gezielt in Verbindung gebracht mit Mord an alten, leidenden und behinderten Menschen). Diesem Gebot folgend schließt sich die Verurteilung von Abtreibungen an "denn jede Abtreibung ist ein Mord" (aus dem Radiospot). Ja zum Kind, Nein zur Entscheidung der Frau also? Ja zur erzwungenen Familie, wenn die Frau vergewaltigt wurde?

Ach ja, und Gebot Nummer 6 ist der Gipfel meiner Aufregung. Man beachte die Argumentationskette: "NEIN zu Porno, Homosex, Mißbrauch von Kindern, ungeordneter Sexualität und JA zur gottgewollten Familie, zu christlicher Sitte und Ordnung" (Zitat aus dem Wahlprogramm der CM. Ich distanziere mich ausdrücklich von den Rechtschreibfehlern nach neuer deutscher Rechtschreibung und von den Inhalten). Was soll ich dazu noch sagen? Lasst mich überlegen: Porno --> Homosex --> Missbrauch von Kindern. Klingt das für den normalen christlichen Mitbürger schlüssig? Ich kann mich nämlich mit dieser Begriffsreihung nicht abfinden. Außerdem denke ich mir schon die Ganze Zeit, wie die Mitglieder der CM wohl ihr Wahlprogramm aufgestellt haben.

Mitglied 1: "Also ich bin gegen Pornografie."
Mitglied 2: "Ich auch, aber wir müssen das umformulieren. Es muss drastischer klingen! Also neulich habe ich unter dem Bett meines Sohnes etwas gefunden ..."
Mitglied 3: "Ich verstehe sie vollkommen. Wie wäre es mit 'Wir sind gegen Pornos!'"
Mitglied 2: "Das klingt schlüssig! Aber das reicht nicht, denn wissen sie, was auf diesen Sachen meines Sohnes zu sehen war?"
Mitglied 1: "Frauen über über 50?"
Mitglied 3: "Tiere?"
Mitglied 2: "Schlimmer! ... Männer!"
*Raunen im Saal*
Mitglied 2: "Und deshalb bin ich gegen den Koitus von Menschen des gleichen Geschlechts."
Mitglied 3: "Koitus ist zu sperrig! Wie wäre es mit Beischlaf?"
Mitglied 1: "Homosexualität?"
Mitglied 2: "Nein, wir sind nicht gegen Homosexualität. Wir sind doch tolerant! Wir wollen nur nicht sehen, wie sie sich küssen oder anfassen oder, Gott bewahre, miteinander schlafen."
Mitglied 3: "Homoschlaf?"
Mitglied 1: "Homosex?"
*Zustimmendes Raunen*
Mitglied 2: "Ich glaube das passt so. Porno, Homosex ... ach ja, und die Kinder?!
Mitglied 3: "Sie nannten mich Mr. Glas!"
Mitglied 2: "Wie bitte?"
Mitglied 3: "Tut mir Leid, Filmzitat aus 'Unbreakable'!
Mitglied 1: "Diese Filme korrumpieren unsere Jugend!"
Mitglied 2: "Genau, Missbrauch der Kinder! Wir sagen NEIN!"

Die letzten Gebote des Wahlprogramms verurteilen übrigens noch "falsche Lehren" (unter anderem auch die Esoterik), Ehebruch (sowie sexuelle Begierde), Sucht und Drogen (Was ist mit Kaffee?) und fordern die Politik auf "das zeitliche Wohl der Bürger unter die Herrschaft GOTTES zu stellen". Im Radiospot war übrigens auch noch die Rede von der "Liebe zum eigenen Vaterland", aber das klingt auch wirklich nur ein bisschen nach einer gewissen anderen Partei, die hier nicht genannt werden soll.

Do you know this: You sit a your bus stop and look at those extremely huge posters for five or ten minutes until your bus arrives. What now, if there is an add, which makes you think so hard that you can't forget it and have to solve the problem. This happened to me and maybe one of you can enlighten me.

My problem is this add: Natural Healing (Watch it with the greatest zoom factor, because I already said, at bus stop adds are like super huge!)

And now you maybe can tell me what bodypart this one at the left border is. I guess it should be an arm, but a.) try to make that pose in exactly the same way and don't dislocate your shoulder b.) why does she have arm hairs on her right arm, but not on the left.

My flatmate and I came to different conclusions:

- There's a man standing in front of her. (It's his arm.)
- She is rubber woman and will save the world with her "Elasty Power".
- It's her knee, pulled up so high, we see her hairy legs.
- It's not a bodypart at all, it's soil for those beautiful flowers (which by the way break their natural growing pattern at her chin).

Cat's Eye (Wenn Katzenaugen glühen...)

Wah, I haven't updated for over a month? Shame on me! Well, at least I have a good excuse. When semester was over, I was so happy to have survived the stressful time, but now I am looking forward to the end of my internship. Although I have only done it for one month, I am totally disappointed. The big problem is, I have to be there almost 9 hours a day and they don't really have work for me. Boring and tiring! Also my superior is a class one asshole and I have to sit in the same room with him. :( My great shimmer of hope is to reach April, because then he'll be away on vacation.

Although I couldn't follow my fandoms well lately, I've found some things I have to share. Do you all remeber the anime series "Cat's Eye"? It's about those three sisters who steal art objects, because they want to find a clue where their father, a European artist, is. Cat's Eye takes me back to my childhood. :)
I always liked the German intro, but lately I searched for the Japanese one and then I found some very funny related stuff.

Meine erste Erfahrung mit WoW

Nachdem ich am Mittwoch in meinem Medienpsychologie-Seminar einen Vortrag über Computerspiele, deren Nutzen und Gefahren gehört habe und die Referentin uns über World of Warcraft erzählte, wo sie selber mitspielt, wollte ich das endlich auch mal ausprobieren.

Also zuerst mal auf die Seite geschaut (http://www.wow-europe.com/de/index.xml). Ist ja alles schön und gut da, aber allein um mir den Guide für Neueinsteiger stellenweise durchzulesen hab ich über eine Stunde gebraucht (nicht zuletzt dadurch, dass mein Firefox mit dieser riesigen Seite nicht ganz klar kam). Jedenfalls klang es dann doch ganz interessant. Hat mich ein bisschen an die Grundzüge von Diablo 2 erinnert, was ich früher sehr mochte. Also hab ich mir die 10-Tage-Probeversion runtergeladen.

Der Einstieg ins Spiel war auch nicht schlimm. Man hat einen Account, man sucht sich ein Realm (eine Welt, in der man spielt) - ich bin in einem normalen Realm, weil ich ja erstmal probieren und nicht gleich Spieler gegen Spieler durchleben wollte. Dann kann man relativ leicht einen Charakter erstellen. Die wichtigste Entscheidung ist, welcher Klasse (zum Beispiel: Paladin, Schurke/Schurkin, Krieger/in, Magier/in, Jäger/in) man angehören möchte und auf welcher Seite (Allianz oder Horde, also helle oder dunkle Seite) man stehen möchte. Mein erster Chara war eine menschliche Schurkin (ach ja, es gibt auch noch verschiedene Völker, zum Beispiel: Mensch, Gnom, Ork, Untoter, ...). Ich sage erster Chara, weil ich sie dermaßen oft aus Versehen in den Tod geführt habe, dass ich einen Neustart mit einem anderen Chara brauchte. Auch mein zweiter Chara, mit dem ich jetzt spiele, ist eine menschliche Schurkin.

Wie ich bereits angedeutet habe, war der Einstieg in das Spielen selbst ein bisschen heftig. Ich musste schauen, wie ich richtig navigiere, was gar nicht leicht ist. Zoom, drehen, laufen, nach oben und unten schwenken! Jedenfalls hab ich meinen ersten Chara für den Anfang, ohne es zu wissen, in ein Gebiet voller viel zu starker Monster geschickt (ich hätte lieber nach Norden statt nach Süden gehen sollen). Und dann bin ich gestorben... meine Seele wachte auf einem Friedhof neben einem Geistheiler auf, der einen sofort (gegen einen unverschämten Handel) wiederbeleben kann, oder man läuft zu seiner Leiche. Wenn man die findet, dann kann man sich ohne Verluste wiederbeleben. Der Nachteil da ist aber, dass man ja immer noch in der Nähe der Monster liegt, die einen umgebracht haben. Also bin ich noch öfter gestorben. :)

Mit meinem zweiten Chara konnte ich dann schon besser navigieren. Hab mich nach Norden gewandt und bin nicht gestorben. Ich hab Wölfe und Wildschweine umgebracht und sogenannte Quests bestanden. Dann ist mein Level gestiegen und ich war nicht mehr ganz so schwach - ein schönes Erlebnis. Außerdem bin ich eitel. Ich habe für meine Chara Stiefel behalten, die von ihrem Wert niedriger waren als ein anderes Paar, weil die anderen so eine breite Krempe hatten und meine Schurkin sonst wie ein Bauerntrampel ausgesehen hätte.

Von Beruf ist meine Schurkin jetzt Schneiderin geworden, nebenberuflich Anglerin und Köchin. Eine dumme Entscheidung hab ich bei der Berufswahl aber getroffen, als ich mich entschied, als zweiten Hauptberuf Verwandlungskunst zuerlernen. Das bringt mir nur nichts, weil ich diese Fähigkeit nicht ausbauen kann, denn dazu würde ich Materialien benötigen, um Gegenstände mit Verwandlungszaubern zu versehen, aber ich krieg diese Materialien nirgends. Wäre ich doch Kürschner geworden!

Ich bin lange Zeit in der Welt alleine rumgestromert, um mich zu orientieren. Lustig fand ich, dass immer allgemeine Nachrichten von anderen Spielern kamen, die irgendwas über "Hogger" erzählten. Ich hab mich gefragt, was Hogger ist. Dann hat mich ein Spieler direkt angesprochen und gefragt, ob ich bei Hogger mitmache, da hab ich ihn gefragt. Hogger ist ein Monster, das man in einem Quest besiegen muss. Weil Hogger aber zu stark ist, erledigt man ihn lieber in einer Gruppe. Dafür war ich aber noch nicht bereit, weil ich immer noch nach einer Möglichkeit suchte, auf das Gesagte anderer zu antworten, ohne es in den Wald hineinzurufen. ^-^

Später hab ich dann in einer Gruppe von drei Leuten einen Quest erledigt, aber das war nicht Hogger. Ich musste auch erst schauen, wie die Koordination in der Gruppe abläuft, aber man braucht nur ein bisschen, um durchzusteigen. Am Schluss wurde ich gefragt, ob ich einer Gilde beitreten möchte, aber das kann ich nicht, weil ich noch den Testaccount habe.

Alles in allem verstehe ich den Suchtcharakter des Spiel. Ich finde die Welt schön und auch das Spielen mit anderen macht Spaß, wenn man weiß, wie man navigiert. Mein größter Erfolg bis jetzt ist, glaube ich, das Fangen von 50 Fischen. XD

So much work, so short in time

It's only Wednesday and I want my week to have an end already. Last week was a horror trip and this week is last week's little brother. Next week seems to be as nasty. I want the semester to be over. I have enough of filming for podcasts and projects, enough of endless hours in the cutting room, enough of people, who want me to hand in stupid reports.

Today is under the sign of one podcast for one of my more interesting seminars. We chose the topic Japan and try to describe history and reception of anime (in Japan and especially Germany). Last week we shot film material for the podcast (one day of walking through town and asking people about anime and cartoons). A friend did all the cutting and today we have to write and speak the explanatory text and do some adjustments.

Tomorrow is full of work and Japanese lessons (final test is next week), the day after that is for presenting the podcast. Then I have weekend, yeah! After my last week with about 70 hours of work and stuff, I really need it.

Ah, but then next week: about 10 interviews for the development of one e-learning online platform, three days of cutting for my other film project, work, one presentation day for the film, japanese test. T-T

I just realized, I am so not up to date. A friend sent me a link to some news article about anime live-action adaptations. I was shocked, because ...

1.) Akira will be adapted and guess who will play the lead role! Leonardo DiCaprio!!! ... ... ... I can't find words. This doesn't seem right! The second important character, Tetsuo, will be played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whom I remember from 10 things I hate about you.

2.) Keanu Reeves will play Spike Spiegel in an adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. Well, at least he looks a little bit like Spike and can be kickass.

3.) There will be an adaptation of Dragonball called Dragonball: Evolution. Although I think there never really should be a live-action of Dragonball (can only be involuntarily ridiculous), the worst thing is James Marsters playing Piccolo. As vampire in Buffy he was okay, but a green skinned Namekian? Please, no!

Long fingers and holy grails

I just checked my news rss feed and the first info was: Long finger makes a successful equity trader. Made sense to me, because in German "long finger" (Langfinger) does also mean pickpocket. I was curious. The news told me in huge words, that men have a greater chance of success in equity trading, if their ringfinger is longer than their index finger. Good to know, eh?

Besides this absolutely life-saving information, the best part was the writing itself. I wouldn't have dreamed of someone calling a university (Cambridge) "the spearhead of finger studies".

Highlight of my day: Today at university I waited for my next course to start, when a friend passed by. He asked me if I wanted to watch the movie "Perceval" with him in the uni cinema. Because I hadn't heard about the film I wanted to know from when it is and at what time it would begin. He didn't know, but suddenly a girl, who sat next to me, answered in his stead. And then she went on: "The film has something to do with the dark age. I think it's about the holy grail, you know?" My friend and I had to hold back the laughter and a lot of eyerolling. I wanted to tell her: "No really? Perceval and dark age? No way! He is a knight! Dark age, no way! And a grail? What incident! It so happens that Perceval is THE knight of the holy grail. I highly doubt the film is about it." *headdesk*

First of all: Happy New Year to all of you! I hope your wishes for this year come true! I am just glad I survived Christmas with my parents and grandparents. It's the same every year. My mother cooks, is stressed, my grandparents mostly are the cause of this stress, my father doesn't care for any stress, my brother ... is my brother (his second name should be chaos) and I just want Christmas to end.

Ah, I also read a book mllesatine gave me: "A Companion to Wolves" by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear.

Hm .... At first I thought: Oh no! (It's not really my most favourite genre) Then I read on and gave the book a chance and it is really not bad. It was interesting in a weird sense and I wanted to know where the story goes, because I really could not see the main issue of the book. Did it want to show me character development? Or maybe relationships in a wolf pack? Or a love story? A story of war?
In the end I'd say there's a bit of everything. In my opinion one of the plots would have been enough. I waited for the big conclusion and a satisfying end, where all loose strands come together, but the end was more than open. You could easily add ten pages and nothing would change, you could remove ten pages and still, nothing elemental would change.

The worst thing are the names in the book. I couldn't imagine how to speak half of them and they confused me. I even had a nightmare where the letters of the names buzzed around my head and the names transformed into other weird unspeakable names. I woke up and was totally mentally exhausted. And then I swore to myself never to read this book shortly before I go to bed.

And although my review sounds very negative, I'd maybe recommend this book. And damn I want to know what happens between Isolfr and Vethulf and Skjaldwulf. :(

Dies und das

Heute schreib ich mal wieder schnell auf Deutsch. In letzter Zeit bin ich viel unterwegs und habe mehrere Projekte am Laufen, weshalb es sein kann, dass ich in größeren Zeitabständen schreibe, aber ich habe mein Journal nicht vergessen.

Ich dachte mir auch, dass ein bisschen Abwechslung für mein IJ auch ganz gut wäre und hab deshalb das Layout verändert. Das alte hatte mir auch gut gefallen, aber man soll sich ja nicht zu sehr an die Dinge binden.

Ganz anderes Thema: Vorhin habe ich festgestellt, dass in "Batman: The Dark Knight" die deutsche Synchro total beschissen klingt. Ich mochte eigentlich immer die Synchronstimme von Heath Ledger, aber diesmal klingt alles unnatürlich. Und warum um alles in der Welt hat man "Hit me!" mit "Zeig's mir!" übersetzt? Ich sollte Filme nur noch im Original schauen.

Real life is the weirdest thing. Today I did a little shopping and when I was on my way back home, I passed a bakery near the tram. This bakery just got delivery and the empty plastic boxes, in which the fresh rolls had been delivered, still stood in front of the bakery. I read the text on the boxes and was surprised to say the least. The text said: "stolen from bakery xy". No, today we don't say "property of bakery xy", we assume the worst case scenario. I hope the delivery man does not feel like a thief all the time.

Of illness and handiworks

I've got a cold again and I feel like a really fat sumo ringer played basketball with me. I hate it! The worst part is, I only get ill when I have a free day. The whole week I worked and went from one place to the other, I presented a paper, I met some friends, I had a compact course and today I wanted to do nothing. Bham! Scene cold!

Anyway, at least I can surf the internet from my bed. On boingboing I found this supercute video, which I want to share:

I also did some crocheting today. This may sound weird, but it's not. On Wednesday I found a book about Amigurumi in my local bookstore and I was instantly in love and wanted to create something like this. So I use the late or early hours of the day to crochet a penguin. I already finished the head and body. Now I only need the wings and feet. ^-^

I know what you think, when you read the title of this post. Shame on you! You have only one thing in mind, really! "Strip around the world" is not an order to get naked, but the name of a project. I'll post the summary, so you know, what's behind the slogan:

"ALL THE ARTISTS AND FRIENDS OF COMICS FROM AROUND THE WORLD CAN MEET HERE AND CREATE A UNIQUE PIECE OF ART: THE LARGEST AND LONGEST COLLABORATIVE COMIC THAT HAS EVER EXISTED – IT IS SUPPOSED TO REACH AROUND THE WORLD ONCE AND BRING PEOPLE AND NATIONS TOGETHER! BE A PART OF IT"

Don't you think this is interesting? The longest collaborative comic strip in the world. If I find some time, I'd like to contribute. Some works are already uploaded on the site. Unfortunately the navigation is horrible. I wanted to be able to scroll the whole strip comfortably, but the tool to do this is a tiny little paperclip on the top. The pics just fly by, because I am not very well coordinated. T-T

Lustige Versprecher an der Uni

Eigentlich wollte ich gestern schon einen Eintrag über den Versprecher eines Dozenten schreiben, aber es ist mir total entfallen. In Nachhinein will ich aber trotzdem davon berichten, weil es einfach zum Lachen ist:

Mein Dozent wollte den Kurs klarmachen, dass wir alle einen Inhalt auf Dauer im Gedächtnis behalten würden, wenn er uns diesen Inhalt penetrant jede Woche wieder aufbereiten würde (Lernen durch Wiederholung). Anstatt dies zu sagen, verwendete er allerdings diesen Wortlaut:
"Wenn ich euch jede Woche penetriert diesen Inhalt zeige, dann werdet ihr euch das merken."

Ich hätte beinahe laut losgelacht, die restlichen Leute in meinem Kurs hatten diesen Versprecher aber nicht bemerkt oder sie haben sich alle im Griff. Ich hab dann leide in mich reingelacht und versucht, mir in Gedanken keine Bilder vorzustellen.

Angestachelt von mllesatine's vorbildlichem Verhalten, habe ich heute die Stadtbücherei erforscht und mir einen Benutzerausweis ausstellen lassen. Ich habe mir drei Bücher ausgeliehen, darunter ein Gedichtband herausgegeben von Marcel Reich-Ranicki, der ja im Moment in den Medien in aller Munde ist, weil er diesen sinnlosen Fernsehpreis abgelehnt und alle aufgeblähten Egos mit einem kritischen Strohhalm angepikst und zum explodieren gebracht hat.

Ich habe in der Straßenbahn bereits angefangen, die Gedichte zu lesen und es ist erstaunlich, wie man sich in die Texte vertiefen kann (noch nie war ich schneller zuhause). Ein Gedicht, das ich sehr beeindruckend finde, ist dieses hier:

So leicht und sicher war ihr Gang,

Diese Zeilen muss man sich auf der Zunge zergehen lassen. Am besten gefällt mir, dass hier kein plumpes "Ich liebe dich!" in den Raum gestellt wird, sondern allein die Handlungen beschreiben, was die beiden empfinden. Sehr subtil, sehr gezielt, sehr romantisch!

Do you know the song "Allein, Allein" by Polarkreis 18? I love this song. My radio plays the song daily and every single time they point out the mix between English and German. Okay, I don't see the big deal. Those few words hardly count as mix in my opinion. Anyway, the song is nice.

Ivri Lider

Today is much better. I got a place in a seminar in the morning and could cancel one in the afternoon, so I can be home earlier. My boss at work is a little strange lately, but I think he has much to do and is stressed. Anyway, no need to take his moods out on the staff.

I promised to post something interesting. In this case it's a nice little video I found on youtube yesterday. I only wanted to listen to the song "Your soul" by Ivri Lider, maybe you know it from the movie "Yossi & Jagger". But I also like to click my way through the sidebar with similar videos and found this wonderful song and video:

I think Ivri Lider has become one of my favourite insider tips. I also recommend the video to "The Man I Love". The song is fantastic and I think in the video you can see Ohad Knoller, who played Yossi. I want to know which movie or series the video material is from. But I'll also warn you, in this video sound and image are not completely synchronised. Don't be surprised or disappointed.
