6th-Jan-2009 07:05 pm - Happy New Year! [books, rl]
First of all: Happy New Year to all of you! I hope your wishes for this year come true! I am just glad I survived Christmas with my parents and grandparents. It's the same every year. My mother cooks, is stressed, my grandparents mostly are the cause of this stress, my father doesn't care for any stress, my brother ... is my brother (his second name should be chaos) and I just want Christmas to end.

New Year's Eve was fun though. Thanks, Satine! And give Dina a hug from me (I am getting used to her)!

Ah, I also read a book [info]mllesatine gave me: "A Companion to Wolves" by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear.
Some thoughts on the book )
5th-Oct-2007 11:25 pm - Shock in the library [books, rl]
Today I had to do some research in the library of my university, because I still have to write a paper for one of my seminars. I decided to check out, what books the library has about "homosexuality", so I searched the catalogue. There were a lot of interesting titles, but one made me doubt my ability to read. I read: "Selbsttherapie von Homosexualität" (english title: "The Battle for Normality: Self-Therapy for Homosexual Persons"). Published in 1999

My brain couldn't process the words and I was confused, because I thought: There can't be a book, which tries to teach homosexuals to stop being homosexual. I took a closer look at the description to solve the riddle. And there I read the category of the book: guidebook.
I was shocked! Maybe this sounds very naive and all, but hey! How can some stupid asshole give people advise to stop being what they are. With this book the author declares homosexuality as some kind of illness. "Self-Therapy"!!! I know what a therapy is and why you do a therapy and none of the reasons has something to do with being homosexual. In what times does he live?

So, anybody, who wants to get angry: Check out the books of Gerard J.M. van den Aardweg. He wrote this guidebook and he also has other ones in store: some more about treatment and "das Drama des gewöhnlichen Homosexuellen" ("the drama of the common homosexual").
