I love crazy characters in films and there is not a film with crazier characters than "Cold Comfort Farm". A co-worker recommended the film to me and I watched it on Youtube. It's hilarious! The main character Flora wants to be a writer like Jane Austen and she decides to learn about real life to put it into books. So she moves to her relatives on Cold Comfort Farm and they are the most absurd people you've ever seen. Judith Starkadder, the mother, sees doom in everything, her son Seth can't control his sex drive, the daughter Elfine runs through the woods in a fairy-like costume and the grandmother Ada Doom doesn't allow anybody to leave the farm, "because there have always been Blackadders on Cold Comfort Farm" and she "did see something nasty in the woodshed" when she was a child (that's her argument throughout the film and it doesn't make a bit of sense). My favourite character though is Amos Starkadder (played by Ian McKellen), Judith's husband and a preacher. He preaches of hellfire and doom. Here's a quote: "Damned! Do you ever stop to think what that word means? No, you don't. It means endless, horrifying torment! It means your poor, sinful bodies stretched out on red-hot gridirons, in the nethermost, fiery pit of hell and those demons mocking ye while they waves cooling jellies in front of ye. You know what it's like when you burn your hand, taking a cake out of the oven, or lighting one of them godless cigarettes? And it stings with a fearful pain, aye? And you run to clap a bit of butter on it to take the pain away, aye? Well, I'll tell ye, there'll be no butter in hell!"

I just stumbled over some interesting information. The producers of "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" started an animation project. In cooperation with well-known directors they produced "Batman Gotham Knight", six interwoven short films about the transformation from Bruce Wayne to Batman. Some day I'll invest in the DVDs, I think. By the way, I don't know why I didn't read about this earlier and I guess I have to scold one of my friends, because he has the DVD and didn't tell me about this earlier.

I just stumbled upon an absolutely fantastic animation project called "Fear(s) of the dark". Six different graphic artists created their own interwoven stories of fear and horror. Because of the black and white look, you really get scared. Here's the trailer from youtube: Because the quality of the trailer on youtube is kind of bad, I'd recommend the official site of the film: Official Site (trailer and information) Peur(s) du noir on myspace (short teasers of some of the episodes)

Today I have one of my lazy days. I actually wanted to get up at 7.30 but in the end I got up 8.30, because I just turned over in bed an fell asleep again after my alarm had stopped ringing. Then I finished my presentation of a film analysis for tomorrow and sent my part to my cooperation partner. My plans after that were to work on my paper about conflicts in Europe as an engine for the creation of a European publicness, but I was too lazy and rather watched the animation film "Tekkonkinkreet". I absolutely recommend this film to anyone who likes anime. The story is full of action, but also psychological and philosophical. It's about two orphans Shiro (White) and Kuro (Black) and their life on the streets of Treasure Town. Kuro is like an older brother for Shiro who acts like a little child although he already is eleven years old. But Shiro is not an annoying brat, but rather the innocent counterpart to Kuro and the only one who really understands the pain Kuro feels, because of their life. I think if they were older, I absolutely would read slash about them. ( More about Tekkonkinkreet )

By chance I got to know of the film "Dark Harbor" with Alan Rickman. whatthefuckbenj had an icon of the film and it made me curious, because on that icon Alan Rickman was hugging another guy. My slash radar went on super alert. So I checked out amazon and couldn't stop myself to buy the film. Today my order arrived. ^-^ So I want to share with you the love that is Alan Rickman and Norman Reedus (who also played in "The Boondock Saints"): ( Follow the cut and you'll see some screencaps (few but huge pics, beware) )

Some time ago I posted this entry to my other journal (on the site which shall not be named). Because I am actually into researching homosexuality in ancient Greek and because I mentioned this film in another entry at slashy_hotness, I'll re-post it. Have fun with Barry Purves' "Achilles"! Yesterday I made a DVD night with Caro, one of my flatmates. We watched two films (one to enjoy Jared Leto and the other one for the heart). The first movie was "Alexander", the second "Music and Lyrics". I don't want to talk about the second anymore, because I already did this on my LJ some time ago. I want to concentrate on "Alexander", because I unexpectedly saw that there was a lot of homosexuality and I as a slash fan couldn't close my eyes before this splendidness. ( Here is my review of the film and a little picspam! (many but not too huge pictures) )

Some time ago I stumbled upon the info that Tim Burton directs a new movie. He said, he wanted to adapt Stephen Sondheim's stage musical "Sweeney Todd", which is about a demon barber. What interested me the most was the rumour of Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman participating in this project. Well, it's been quite a while since I found the news and guess what? I searched today, if some new information was available. The pic is a link to a site, where you can download two wallpapers.( Here are the results )

My mother just told me about a movie she wants to watch with me when I am home. It's called "Death At A Funeral" or the German Title "Sterben für Anfänger" (I think it's a rather weird translation, because the German title means "Dying for beginners"). Anyway, I just watched the trailer and had to laugh so hard. The father died and his son gets the information of his father's sexual likings. He looks at the room and sees lots of sculptures and pictures of athletic young men. Muahaha! Watch the trailer on moviemaze! For the full version of the scene choose the english version. The German trailer is cut, I don't know why.
